This was a day that was truly representative of Marisa and John. Their passions, interests and love for those around them were all infused into their wedding day. From the get-go, the day was designed to match the pace, mood, atmosphere and experience that Marisa and John wanted and it was so magical.
Their December wedding took place at the New Vintage Place in downtown Grand Rapids, thankfully on a mild winter day. The couple started the day earlier at Palace Flophouse Salon, where they all enjoyed hair and makeup appointments, hanging out with friends and enjoying mimosas before heading to the venue to get ready for the day. Marisa and John shared their first look and then they hopped on an adorable white trolley with their wedding party for photos around downtown Grand Rapids. One thing we intentionally planned for was for their wedding party photos and family photos pre-ceremony to not feel rushed so we opted for an evening ceremony. It was perfect that as guests arrived the sun was setting and candles were filling the space with a warm and cozy glow. The ceremony was officiated by John’s past professor and mentor, Myra, which made it all the more special and included readings from the couple’s siblings. Marisa and John shared their vows to each other and there were lots of happy tears, laughter and love.
Following the ceremony, guests headed downstairs to enjoy cocktail hour. Marisa and John had a couple of fun activities for them to enjoy, including large cutouts of their pets for the photo booth and interactive question cards for guests to fill out. They even created custom fun facts on cocktail napkins as well! The reception space opened to welcome guests into a room of warm candlelight, vibrant jewel tone flowers against deep navy linens. It was such a lovely and unexpected winter color palette. All of the guest tables used “names” in lieu numbers and were even themed to reflect the guests sitting there. Marsia also included thoughtful decorative figurines to match each unique table name as well. The guests really enjoyed reading all of the table names! After a delicious meal service from Distinctive Catering, Cheat Day Sweets made sure that everyone’s sweet tooth was satisfied with an incredible dessert display. The rest of the evening ebbed and flowed with natural ease as guests danced, played indoor yard games, had fun at the photo booth and mingled together. It was a wonderful day for Marisa and John and it was an honor to be a part of it and will be a forever favorite!
Much love and congratulations to John & Marisa!
