Real Wedding Stories

A day like no other for a couple like no other! As soon as Abby and Zach told me about their vision for their June wedding in downtown Detroit, I was fully on board to help their unique vision come to life and it was definitely a day to remember!

Their ceremony and reception took place at the historic Jam Handy building in downtown Detroit. Rondo Strings Quartet played music as guests entered the ceremony space. Lush ferns lined the aisle to a greenery installation focal point to highlight where Abby and Zach would share their vows. After a ceremony filled with lots of laughs and love, the guests headed into the main room to enjoy cocktail hour. A table of French 75 and classic margarita signature cocktails welcomed guests into the room, featuring drawings of the couple’s cats. Two Unique Catering passed delicious appetizers throughout the room along with an heirloom tomato artisanal display, which was stunning and such a crowd pleaser- perfect for their summer wedding! Rousing cheers arose and Zach and Abby were introduced into the room and then their families gave heartfelt speeches to the couple.

Abby and Zach really wanted to treat their guests to a unique dining experience and it definitely delivered! Strolling dinner stations featuring small plates of seared barramundi, spring gnocchi, dragon noodles and sushi. Guests had so much fun exploring the stations. Another unique element was their dessert truck by For the Love of Sugar, offering gourmet ice cream cookie sandwiches, macarons and more. Even though it ended up being a slightly rainy day, we were able to have the dessert truck pull right up to the back door behind the venue and it was so perfect! DJ Casey of Rusch Entertainment got the dance floor started with the couple’s choreographed first dance and then got everyone up and dancing – alone this would have been an amazing dance floor set- but we weren’t done yet. We allowed guests to have a little transition time to refresh, grab a drink, dessert, candy from the couple’s station before entering the late night rave. Throughout the evening, we transformed their ceremony space to be a surprise end of the night rave for their guests. As guests entered they were greeted with glow wands, glow accessories and a selfie station neon sign complete with kittie fat heads. The venue allows for events until 2 am, so we took full advantage of that when designing Abby and Zach’s wedding day. This late night dance party was so hype and didn’t stop until the last song! It was so much fun planning with Zach and Abby and seeing them have such a great time on their wedding day!
