Authentic, passionate, witty and caring are some words that I would use to describe Chelsea and Dexter. These two Detroiters wanted to get married surrounded by all of the people that they loved in the city that they loved. I had the pleasure of working with this great couple for over half year on their wedding and enjoyed getting to know them, along with their top bakery picks, delving into some baked brie, thoroughly discussing every new episode of Game of Thrones and guiding them through their planning process. These two had a great vision of what they wanted and had some wonderful details incorporated that we are excited to share with you!
The couple and their bridal party stayed at the The Siren in downtown Detroit, which was the ideal spot for their getting ready photos and first look. The hotel’s atmosphere fit the couple’s vibe perfectly. When storms threatened the original outdoor photo plan, the Siren’s Candy Bar couldn’t have been a better choice! Dexter kept his wedding day look low-key cool with a fresh pair of Nike shoes and a custom 1701 Bespoke suit with a floral tie. Chelsea’s two piece BHLDN Jenny Yoo wedding dress and chic flats matched her personality and fashion sense to a tee. Their groomsmen and bridesman wore navy suits with matching floral ties while the bridesmaids wore light blush dresses.
Their ceremony and reception took place at The Eastern in downtown Detroit, which was formally a hook & ladder fire engine repair station. Guests were seated at their tables for Dexter and Chelsea’s touching ceremony, they wrote their own vows – all the feels! The wooden farm tables and gold chiavari chairs from Detroit Chiavari were arranged in long communal rows. Their ceremony area was decorated with greenery hoops from Brightmoor Flower Farm and all of the tables were lined with their lush greenery garlands. Even the bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets were all greens, texture for days! At each place setting was a crisp ivory napkin in a drop fold with a greenery sprig on top. Scattered amongst the greens were varying matte black candlestick holders with taper candles. The candles and amber up-lighting around the room really created an romantic scene. Guests could relax in two lounge areas inside and outdoors on the patio that featured mod grey armchairs and emerald velvet sofas from Display Group. Michigan gave us hell that day, but we were ready with our rain plan tent that covered the patio area from Great Lakes, who also provided the ambient bistro lighting throughout the main room.
One extra exciting detail from Chelsea and Dexter’s wedding was that they had FOOD TRUCKS for dinner! Much planning and thought was put into these dinner plans and guests were able to enjoy small plate options from three delicious food trucks; El Guapo, Pink Flamingo, Cafe Cortina. Our rain tent was instrumental in providing cover as the guests visited the food trucks, so that they didn’t get wet. Their guests were so excited to be able to experience such a fun and unique dinner option. Dessert did not disappoint as well! Perfect June desserts were supplied by Treat Dreams and Detroit Pop Shop. Check out Treat Dream’s honey lavender ice cream, it’s amazing! Much of the evening was a free-flowing, self-guided guest experience with the signage designed by our talented couple. Michigan storms couldn’t keep this couple and their guests from having a great time and a beautiful wedding!
Chelsea & Dexter, you two are amazing, I was honored to be a part of your day! Congratulations and much love to you and your families!
