After having met while working for the Onion, you know that Genevieve and Steve were going to be all of the levels of fun! Their wedding day was just that, which flowed along with a smooth and effortless feel and it was a pleasure for us to be along for the ride. After two postponements, the third time really was a charm for these two!
All of the festivities took place at Zingerman’s Cornman Farms in Dexter and with a lot of guests travelling from out of town for this wedding, it was the perfect venue for them to explore and enjoy themselves. Their ceremony took place in front of the farmhouse, which was adorned with Genevieve’s pennant banners on the upper balcony and two beautiful floral/greenery arrangements from the University Flower Shop. After some family members made their way down the aisle, Steve ran out from the front door and vamped his way up and down the aisle to a sax solo and hyped up the crowd for their ceremony. Then Genevieve and her mom made their way up the aisle to a song from “Pride and Prejudice.” The ceremony was officiated by their good friend, Oliver, and included several special readings. After the ceremony, guests made their way over to the barn for cocktail hour, which included two cute goats to pet, lawn games and passed appetizers of goat cheese tarts and bacon-wrapped skewers from Zingerman’s Roadhouse. Guests also had a chance to sign Genevieve and Steve’s unique guest book! In lieu of an actual book, the couple opted for their guests to write notes on quilt squares that would be made into a keepsake quilt for them. In the reception tent, champagne and chocolate squares awaited each guest at their tables, which were decorated with pennant banner table numbers and lush floral arrangements. After an epic toast & roast from two of their friends, Zingerman’s Roadhouse served their family-style dinner, which included brisket, wild range chicken, risotto, mac and cheese and roasted vegetables- yum!
Back in the barn, guests watched as Genevieve and Steve cut their wedding cake, which was also decorated with little frosting pennant banners to carry through their theme. This delicious cake included flavors like apple butter cake with cinnamon buttercream and Dulce de Leche filling, cocoa velvet cake with cherry preserves and espresso buttercream, along with buttermilk cake with lemon butter cream. Always serving up drool-worthy flavor combinations at Zingerman’s Bakehouse! Guests also left that evening with favors of mason jars of local honey and little bottles of wisniak, which is a cherry-flavored liqueur made by the couple. Genevieve and Steve kicked off the dance floor with their first dance underneath pennant banners strung across the dance floor. Lufru Entertainment kept that dance floor moving the whole night and wrapped up the night with two of the couple’s favorites; Mariah Carey’s “All I wanted for Christmas” followed by Tenacious D’s “F* you softly”- I am forever changed and there is now no other way as epic to end a wedding.
Cheers to Genevieve and Steve!
